UNIONDALE, NEW YORK (May 1, 2024)—The Uniondale School District recently celebrated the achievements of its esteemed music scholars, who have been booked and busy this spring. From captivating performances to enriching master classes, these talented scholars have demonstrated unparalleled dedication and skill in their musical pursuits.
"The dedication and talent displayed by our scholars continue to inspire us all,” said Kelvin Jenkins, Director of Fine and Performing Arts at Uniondale School District. “These experiences enrich their musical education and instill a sense of pride in their achievements."
Under the direction of Colton Wynter, Joe Boardman, and Derrick Barker, the Uniondale High School Marching Knights and concert band embarked on a college tour in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area. During their visit, the Marching Band, Concert Band and Jazz Band had the privilege of participating in master classes and performing at renowned institutions such as Howard University and Towson University. The warm welcome extended by Uniondale alumni Sierra Prescod and Isaac Hernandez at Howard University showed the strong sense of community and support among Uniondale’s Knights’ past and present.
In addition to their college tour, the Knight-Time Jazz Band showcased their prowess at the Battle of the Bands sponsored by MADD at Westbury Music Fair. Makayla Grier's outstanding performance on Alto Sax earned her the title of Best Jazz Soloist, furthering the District's reputation for musical excellence.
"Our scholars consistently demonstrate a level of skill and artistry that is truly remarkable,” said Colton Wynter, Band Director at Uniondale School District. “Their dedication to their craft and their passion for music are evident in every performance."
Earlier in April, the Knight-Time Jazz Band captivated audiences at the Five Towns College High School Jazz Festival, leaving a lasting impression with their dynamic and soulful performances. The Uniondale School District extends its heartfelt congratulations to all its dedicated musical scholars and acknowledges the invaluable support provided by the faculty in nurturing their talents. These achievements serve as a testament to the district's commitment to fostering artistic excellence and enriching the lives of its students.
